The Interview Process

Currently, my interviews with my two chosen individuals have been going quite well. Both Matashia (Shay) and Dr. Bryant have been very helpful and very informative in helping me with my course project. Being that they are both experienced and licensed counselors, they have had many years of experience in dealing with children. More so, they have been very helpful in detailing me some of the characteristics they have seen in children who have lacked literacy and school readiness skills. So far, I have not had any challenges in interviewing these two people so I am thankful for that.

In reflecting on my course project, I am struggling a bit with my sources in relation to the characteristics of resiliency in response to children being school ready and up to par with their literacy skills. This has put me behind a little, but I am diligently getting caught up. In my interview with Dr. Bryant, she stated that in trying to complete my course project, I need to take my time and look deeply into my scholarly resources so that in finalizing my course project I can reflect all aspects of my topic. However, even though I am a bit behind in my course project, I am progressing at a good pace.

What advice can anyone offer in helping to stay focused and on track in these last few weeks?

  1. I hope you have explored resources being provided to parents to help their children "get ready" for school. Are schools doing enough outreach to assist parents in their support of literacy? What additional supports are in place for children who are not yet ready but do not have specific learning disabilities?

  2. Hi Ke’Andrea,
You have selected a topic that is very relevant to educators and parents. I am also happy to hear that your interviews are going well. It appears that they are giving you genuine feedback. All of us could benefit from the advice that Dr. Bryant gave you because the scholarly resources are the foundation of our project. Finally, I understand that you feel a bit behind as we all probably do. Time management will play a critical role in our ability to successfully complete this project. I know we can do it!
